SBI Life steps in to aid mobility for the differently abled in Jaipur, collaborates with BMVSS
Jaipur, 08th April 2024: SBI Life Insurance, one of the most trusted private life insurance companies in India, joined hands with Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) in Jaipur, Rajasthan; to aid mobility of physically disabled people through their rehabilitation initiative. The initiative aims to restore mobility and thereby empower the differently abled to carry out tasks with dignity.
Under the initiative SBI Life will be providing artificial limbs to 370 people with physical disabilities, transforming their lives and aiding their mobility. The need for artificial limbs is profound, particularly for individuals facing physical disabilities due to congenital conditions, accidents, or medical reasons. The absence of functional limbs can significantly hinder their ability to engage in daily activities, work, and social interactions. Recognizing this crucial need, BMVSS has sought support from SBI Life to facilitate the rehabilitation of disabled individuals by implanting artificial limbs and calipers for the fiscal year 2023-24.
The cheque handover was graced by Mr. Yogesh Sharma, Regional Director-Jaipur, SBI Life Insurance to Mr. D R Mehta, Founder and Chief Patron, BMVSS in presence of Mr. Bhupendra Mehta and Dr Deependra Mehta, Secretaries, BMVSS.
The beneficiaries of this partnership include individuals who have lost lower limbs due to various reasons such as birth defects, accidents, cancer, diabetes complications, and peripheral artery diseases. The rehabilitation process involves a comprehensive approach, starting with physical evaluation and counselling, followed by the development and implantation of customized artificial limbs. Patients undergo a period of rehabilitation to optimize mobility and functionality, empowering them to perform a broader range of tasks and access employment opportunities, thereby reducing dependency on others and contributing to economic independence.
This initiative not only addresses the immediate physical needs of individuals but also challenges societal biases and misconceptions about disability. By investing in advanced assistive devices and rehabilitation programs, the collaboration between SBI Life and BMVSS aims to promote inclusivity and empower underprivileged disabled individuals to regain functional independence.
Established in 1975, Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) operates across India, providing essential healthcare services to those with physical disabilities. With over 33 branches nationwide, BMVSS has rehabilitated over 2.1 million individuals to date. The organization is renowned for its innovative approaches, including the development of the “Jaipur Knee” in collaboration with Stanford University, recognized as one of the 50 Best Inventions in the World by Time Magazine USA.
With the successful implementation of this initiative, SBI Life and BMVSS aspire to transform lives by fostering a more inclusive society where individuals with disabilities can pursue their aspirations with dignity.
