Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles once again partners with SFI to support the tenth edition of Covelong Classic ’23
Chennai, August 16, 2023: Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles is proud to partner with the Surfing Federation of India once again to promote the thrilling sport of surfing that’s rapidly gaining popularity in the country. In its second year of association with SFI, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles is now one of the main partners for all five rounds of this year’s professional surfing calendar, concluding with the World Surfing League from 14th to 20th August 2023. As a brand, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles is deeply passionate about supporting and growing the adventurous spirit of young India, and sports like surfing evoke the same sense of freedom that motorcycles ignite in the soul. For the national championship, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles partnered with Covelong Surf Festival ’23 organized at Kovalam Beach in Chennai. The festival held on 12-13th August 2023 was attended by over 15,000 people over both days.
Last year, Indian national surfing champion – Ajeesh Ali from Kovalam, Chennai, rode home a specially designed Yezdi Scrambler – the hardy go-anywhere Scrambler was equipped with a surfboard rack. He now chases waves, anywhere, anytime, all the time! This year’s national champions, Srikanth D and Sugar Shanti Banarasi – in the Men’s and Women’s Classes respectively – were awarded a Yezdi Scrambler and a swanky new Jawa 42 Cosmic Carbon, with custom surfboard racks. Our national champions can now ride every tide in style! The motorcycles were awarded to the champions by Sri Udhayanidhi Stalin, Hon’ble Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Tamil Nadu and SFI ambassador, and cricket legend- Jonty Rhodes.
Surfing is an Olympic sport and is quickly catching the fancy of young budding athletes. In fact, India has its very own surfing team. To push and promote the sport further, SFI partnered with Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles and are proud to host India’s first international event, the International Surf Open. With the help of the Tamil Nadu Government, the competition has attracted surfers from 12 countries across Asia and Australia. This year, the competition witnessed 53 international surfers (men and women) go head-to-head with 15 of India’s best male and female surfers.
Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles is an enabler of a lifestyle filled with adventure and memorable stories that inspire the tenacity of the human spirit. Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Ashish Singh Joshi, CEO, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles, said; “The Covelong Classic ’23 festival perfectly blends four exciting elements – surf, motorcycling, music, and fitness – into a dynamic and unforgettable two-day event. We’re excited to partner with the Surfing Federation of India and combine motorcycling and surfing to create exciting adventures for our Jawa Yezdi Kommuniti. Also, it is an honour to be nurturing and supporting this sport as well as surfing talent and take it to a global level. We’re proud to have provided an exceptional platform for surfers, motorcyclists, music lovers and fitness enthusiasts to come together and create unforgettable memories.”
Beyond the thrills of the surf and the beats of music, Covelong Classic ’23 fostered wellness and community engagement. Invigorating yoga sessions, dynamic animal flow fitness classes and an energising barefoot 5km run provided a holistic experience that empowered participants to discover their inner strengths.
In the evening, live music performances resonated with festivalgoers as Avial, When Chai Met Toast, and The Soul Sri Lanka delivered electrifying sets. The fusion of music and the gentle sea breeze created an atmosphere of pure magic, leaving attendees dancing and swaying in celebration.
Covelong Classic ’23, with its harmonious blend of excitement and entertainment, promises to continue captivating audiences for years to come!
