Birla Global University (BGU), one of eastern India’s leading institutions of higher education, welcomed its new batch of students to the Birla School of Law through the Commencement Day Programme 2026, marking the beginning of an enriching academic journey for students enrolled in the BBA LL.B. (Hons.) 2026–31 and LL.M. 2026–27 programmes.
The programme was graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bijay Kumar Nayak, Former Judge, High Court of Orissa, as the Chief Guest, while Mr. Divyansh Joshi, Principal Associate, Khaitan & Co., attended as the Guest of Honour. The event was also attended by Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Vice Chancellor, Birla Global University, Prof. (Dr.) Sukanta K. Nanda, Dean, Birla School of Law and Mr. Tanmay Kumar Pattanayak, Registrar, along with faculty members, alumni, staff and students.
Delivering the Commencement Day address, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bijay Kumar Nayak emphasized, “In the space of legal field, the sky is truly not the limit. Being a successful lawyer takes far more than just knowing the law; it ultimately comes down to honesty, strong values, and deep expertise.”
Addressing the audience, Mr. Divyansh Joshi observed, “You will rarely find an environment like this after your student years—one where asking questions is embraced and mistakes are treated as vital learning opportunities. Think critically, observe closely, and learn continuously from your peers, mentors, and the world around you. Leverage AI and modern tools to drive your own growth.”
Speaking to the incoming batch, Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Vice Chancellor, highlighted, “Reading widely beyond your textbooks remains essential. While technology and AI may match or exceed standard work, human critical thinking, sharp reasoning, and a nuanced understanding of details will always set you apart.”
Welcoming the new students, Prof. (Dr.) Sukanta K. Nanda, Dean, Birla School of Law, noted, “As a forward-looking institution, we continually adapt our curriculum to align with evolving industry demands, ensuring our graduates are fully career-ready from day one.”
Extending his best wishes, Mr. Tanmay Kumar Pattanayak, Registrar, reminded them, “In today’s highly competitive world, success comes from staying focused on your goals through strategic planning, discipline, relentless practice, self-belief, and strong core values. Remember, there are no shortcuts to excellence.”
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Mitashree Tripathy, Associate Professor, Birla School of Law.
The Commencement Day Programme formally inducted the new students into the BGU community, acquainting them with the University’s academic culture, values and commitment to excellence. It also provided an opportunity for the students to interact with faculty members, industry professionals and alumni, setting the stage for a transformative learning experience and a successful professional journey.
