Tata Power Strengthens Commitment to Energy Efficiency on National Energy Conservation Day; Hosts Annual Flagship Event ‘Urja Mela,’with students representing 15 states
National, December 20, 2023: Tata Power’s Annual Flagship Event Urja Mela attracted participation from 700 students and teachers across 15 states of India where the company is present. The event organized at Tata Power’s learning and development centre on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, at Rohini, New Delhi, aimed to groom young leaders as catalysts for change in community climate initiatives in line with the company’s ‘Sustainable is Attainable’ movement.
With Climate conversation taking centre-stage at COP28, the event aims to create climate awareness among young champions. Urja Mela forms an integral part of Club Enerji, Tata Power’s initiative to cultivate young clean energy ambassadors by collaborating with schools nationwide. This movement since its inception in 2007, has been empowering students to become responsible citizens and proactive leaders. The initiative has so far reached out to more than 1000 schools across 15 states, and it aspires to reach out to more than 5,000 schools by FY28.
In alignment with Tata Power’s commitment to sustainable development, Urja Mela builds awareness about energy conservation. The day-long event featured engaging s activities such as quiz, drawing competition, science model exhibition around the theme ‘Conserving for Tomorrow’. These activities aimed to shape young leaders in climate action, fostering their role as catalysts for change in their communities to drive broader climate initiatives.
Addressing the students and teachers during the Urja Mela, Mr. Himal Tewari CHRO, Chief Sustainability, & CSR- Tata Power, said “Addressing today’s climate concerns, our ‘Club Enerji’ initiative is designed to tap into the transformative influence of children through thoughtfully curated, periodic engagements. With Club Enerji, Tata Power is shouldering the crucial responsibility of developing young climate change champions. The annual Urja Mela, hosted on National Energy Conservation Day, serves as a focal point, uniting students from across the country to instill motivation and empower them in actively building a cleaner, more sustainable world, emphasizing the narrative ‘Duniya Apne Hawale’. Through real-time experiences, these young climate champions emerge as catalysts for positive change, influencing their communities toward a greener future. Going forward we intend to scale the initiative further by onboarding more schools and students to this conservation movement.”
Tata Power’s clean energy agenda, aligned with its mission of building a sustainable future, emphasizes raising awareness about energy-saving practices and efficiency improvements. Club Enerji, the global Edison award-winning initiative launched in 2007, has been a key driver in Tata Power’s vision and is now in its 15th phase, successfully engaging the younger generation to instigate societal and behavioral change in energy consumption and natural resource conservation. Taking its commitment a step further, in its effort to introduce phygital learning approach, the event also saw launch of updated Club Enerji Conservation Module, which is a curated booklet with engaging content on clean energy sources and climate conservation awareness. The booklet also includes QR codes leading to DIY audio-visual content promising a fully immersive learning experience for the children.
Recently, the company launched a film, ‘DuniyaApneHawale’, an ode to energy conservation featuring children as protagonists, as an extension of its ‘Sustainable Is Attainable’ Campaign. The film promotes the message ‘Embrace Mother Earth. Love Our Planet. Switch to Green and Clean Energy.’
